At Arvé Aesthetics in Greenville, SC, penis neurotoxin therapy is a specialized, physician-directed treatment that uses precise doses of neuromodulator injected into targeted penile musculature and supporting structures to promote muscle relaxation, improved blood flow dynamics, and functional enhancement. Every procedure is performed in a private, closed-door treatment room with complete discretion and attention to patient dignity.
What Is Penis Neurotoxin?
Penis neurotoxin therapy uses Dysport®, a botulinum toxin type A neuromodulator, to relax the smooth muscle and connective tissue structures responsible for penile retraction and tension. By reducing involuntary contraction in these structures, the treatment may allow the penis to extend more naturally at rest and reduce the muscular tension that can interfere with erectile function.
Dysport® is selected for this application because of its well-established diffusion characteristics, which allow for effective distribution across the targeted tissue when appropriately dosed and placed.
Depending on how the allocated units are distributed between the two primary treatment targets, penis neurotoxin can be optimized toward flaccid lengthening appearance, erectile function support, or a combination of both. This is determined collaboratively during your consultation based on your primary goals.
What This Treatment May Improve
Flaccid Lengthening and Appearance
By targeting the suspensory ligament at the base of the penis with a smaller allocation of units directed into the penile shaft, neurotoxin relaxes the structures responsible for retraction and upward tension. This may allow the penis to hang more naturally at rest, reducing the appearance of shortening caused by hyperactive smooth muscle contraction. This treatment does not increase penile tissue size or true anatomical length. The improvement is functional and positional rather than structural.
Erectile Function Support
When units are distributed more heavily into the penile shaft musculature, the treatment may support erectile function by reducing smooth muscle tone that can restrict blood flow and interfere with the mechanics of erection. Anecdotal clinical observations have also noted reduced refractory time between erections and improvements in perceived girth during erection in some patients.
It is important to understand that penis neurotoxin is a complementary treatment, not a primary therapy for erectile dysfunction. Specifically, this treatment may assist with maintaining an erection once initiated, but it will not help a patient initiate an erection. If you experience difficulty achieving erections in the first place, this treatment alone is unlikely to be sufficient and a full erectile dysfunction evaluation is recommended.
Conveniently, erectile dysfunction consultations and physician evaluation are available at Arvé Aesthetics, and our physicians can prescribe Trimix injection therapy for patients who require it as a primary or adjunctive ED treatment.
What to Expect
Consultation
A consultation with one of our providers is required before treatment. Your provider will discuss your primary goals, review your medical history, and determine the appropriate unit distribution between the two treatment targets based on whether your priority is flaccid appearance, erectile function support, or both. If ED is a significant concern, your provider will also assess whether a full erectile dysfunction evaluation and additional treatment such as Trimix is indicated.
The Procedure
Treatment is performed in a private, closed-door room. A topical numbing agent is applied prior to injection to ensure comfort throughout the session. Dysport® is then injected into the targeted structures using precise, anatomically guided technique. The distribution of units between the base ligament and penile shaft is customized to your treatment goals as discussed during your consultation.
The procedure is quick, discreet, and performed entirely in-office with minimal disruption to your day.
Duration
Most appointments take approximately 45 minutes from start to finish.
Results
Results develop gradually over 1 to 2 weeks as the neuromodulator takes effect and targeted muscle tension begins to reduce. Effects typically last 4 to 6 months or longer, after which repeat treatment can be performed to maintain results. As patients receive repeat treatments, the results last longer
Who Is Not a Good Candidate?
Penis neurotoxin therapy is not appropriate for everyone. Treatment is not recommended for patients who:
- Have difficulty initiating erections, as this treatment supports maintenance of erections rather than their initiation, and a full ED evaluation is needed first
- Have a known allergy or sensitivity to botulinum toxin, Dysport®, or any of its components
- Are taking blood thinning medications without medical clearance
- Have an active infection in or around the treatment area
- Have had recent penile surgery that has not fully healed
Aftercare
Following treatment, mild sensitivity or temporary bruising at the injection sites is possible. To support proper healing and allow the neurotoxin to settle:
- Avoid Sexual Activity: refrain from sexual intercourse and masturbation for at least 72 hours following treatment
- Avoid Strenuous Activity: limit vigorous physical activity for the first 24 hours
- Avoid Heat: avoid saunas, hot tubs, and excessive heat for the first 24 to 48 hours
- Follow Provider Instructions: adhere to all post-treatment guidance provided at your appointment
- Monitor for Unexpected Changes: contact our team if you experience significant pain, unusual swelling, or any unexpected symptoms
Penis Neurotoxin FAQs
What does penis neurotoxin do?
Penis neurotoxin uses Dysport® to relax targeted smooth muscle and connective tissue structures in the penis. Depending on how units are distributed, this can improve the natural flaccid hang of the penis by reducing retraction, support erectile function by reducing muscular tension that can interfere with blood flow, or address both goals simultaneously.
Does this actually make the penis longer?
Not anatomically. The treatment reduces involuntary muscular retraction and allows the penis to extend more naturally at rest, which can improve the perceived flaccid length and appearance. It does not add tissue, increase structural length, or produce the type of change that surgical ligament release would. The improvement is functional and positional.
Can this help erectile dysfunction?
It can assist with maintaining erections in patients who are able to achieve them but have difficulty sustaining them. Penis neurotoxin reduces the smooth muscle tension that can interfere with the mechanics of erection and blood flow dynamics. It will not help a patient who has difficulty initiating erections. If you experience difficulty getting erections, a full erectile dysfunction evaluation is needed first, which is available at Arvé Aesthetics. Our physicians can also prescribe Trimix injection therapy for patients who require more targeted ED treatment.
How long do results last?
Results from an initial treatment typically last 4 to 6 months or longer depending on individual response. With repeated treatments, the duration between sessions tends to extend as the tissue responds to sustained muscle relaxation over time. Patients who commit to a consistent treatment schedule have also reported a gradual increase in baseline flaccid length as a cumulative benefit of long-term treatment. Repeat treatment can be performed to maintain and build on results.
Is it painful?
Topical numbing is applied before treatment to minimize discomfort. Most patients find the procedure very well tolerated. Some mild sensitivity at the injection sites is possible following treatment but typically resolves quickly.
What is Trimix and do you offer it?
Trimix is a compounded injectable medication used for erectile dysfunction that is injected directly into the penile tissue to produce an erection. It is a well-established and highly effective treatment for ED, particularly in patients who have not responded adequately to oral medications. Arvé Aesthetics offers physician evaluation for erectile dysfunction and can prescribe Trimix for appropriate candidates. If you are experiencing ED and are unsure whether penis neurotoxin or Trimix is the right approach, your consultation will help determine the best path forward.
